Once again, "Lake Garda therapy" worked its magic! On Sunday, September 6, 2026, Pra de la Fam delivered a fantastic Peler wind and a top-notch summer windsurfing session, set against the magnificent natural backdrop the lake is known for.

I had missed "Pra'," and I really needed one of those beautiful windsurfing days that this famous Lake Garda spot offers, to take my mind off the recent loss of my mother.

Yesterday, we enjoyed a magnificent summer session with a Peler wind of just the right intensity: a clear, cloudless blue sky, the lake beautifully rippled by the wind for over two hours, and a great crowd of riders at the spot.

Without taking anything away from wingfoilers or kiters, Pra' remains one of the few spots where windsurfers still dominate the scene, so you don't feel like an endangered species. In fact, windsurfing is still a thriving sport here. It was truly a day to celebrate.

I arrived at the Pra' parking lot just after 6:30 AM and was surprised to find it already nearly full. Miraculously, I snagged the last spot at the northern end, right next to the small adjacent beach; beyond that, there were only spots outside the marked bays.

I then enjoyed breakfast in my beloved camper van — drawing a compliment from my neighbor, Benedict — with a priceless view of the spot. The atmosphere at the Pra' before sunrise is magical.

A bit of Bora wind caused some concern, generating a light southerly breeze near the shore before the sun rose over Monte Baldo. However, the forecast showed a significant temperature and pressure differential between the Sarca Valley and the lake, leading me to believe the Peler would eventually kick in hard. And that’s exactly what happened.

By 8:00 AM, the wind began moving closer to the shore—initially unstable, but soon strengthening and smoothing out across the entire stretch of water in front of the beach. It has blown hard between 8:30 and 10:00 AM. Perhaps influenced by the skeptics, I rigged my 2025 Ezzy Wave 4.7 paired with a Tabou 3S Plus 96 (set up as a single fin). I found myself slightly overpowered during the middle of the session, struggling a bit with maneuvers. For the first time, I managed to sail upwind all the way to the Limonaia (lemon house) north of the Pra'!

A 4.2 sail would have been better for me. At Garda, you almost always have to trust the forecast.

Naturally, with the Centomiglia sailing race taking place and so many riders out there, the water surface turned into something of a madhouse at one point. Let’s be clear: Pra' isn't always a perfect spot. But I’m learning not to complain too much these days — a typical habit of us windsurfers — and I’m increasingly learning to enjoy the day as a whole, appreciating everything it offers, both on and off the water. I headed out around 11:00 AM, just as the wind had begun to fade from the spot and was becoming increasingly unstable.

Autumn — one of the best seasons for windsurfing — is just around the corner. With the lake water still so warm (yesterday, people were out in short wetsuit, or even bare chest), I think the lake is going to deliver some great Peler sessions, in the next months. Plus, we’re all looking forward to get back to the sea and ride the waves.
