In this article, you will find the wind (and wave) forecasts for the next few days, for the sea and/or for Lake Como and Lake Garda. A fundamental support for your windsurfing sessions, or other water sports.
Wind forecast: sea and lakes Como and Garda. Next days
Waterwind has long been a reference for all windsurfing and water sports enthusiasts, as for wind forecasts. We systematically consult weather models, and, thanks also to our spots knowledge, we provide the right tips to enjoy a good session. We share forecasts mainly for the Italian and French coasts of the Mediterranean, which we know and ride often. But we are "ocean addicts", and therefore, especially in summer, we add forecasts for the European coasts that overlook the oceans (Spain, Portugal, etc.).
The article is constantly updated. Usually, the update is made on Friday morning, to publish the forecasts for the weekend. But, if necessary, if the conditions are particularly favorable, we also proceed to publish the update during the week. Below you will find the time interval to which the forecast update refers.
Studying the forecasts, and updating this article, costs time and effort. So, it is a service reserved for users with Supporter accounts (registered users with a free account can read updates only after the referred period has expired). To become a Supporter, follow this link.
Sometimes, for quick forecasts, related to single days, we also publish updates in the Waterwind forum.

Update: October 21, 2025. Forecast for 23-28/10/2025
Sea
Finally, a strong low-pressure system is about to arrive, bringing strong winds to the central Mediterranean Sea! The forecast is starting to take shape for the middle of this week, but we'll need to wait for further updates to precisely define what will happen over the weekend and early next week. We'll update the article. Stay tuned.
The action will begin on Thursday, October 23rd. Both ECMWF and ICON models forecast a strong WNW wind in France, from Languedoc to Cannes/Antibes (three consecutive days of westerly winds possible, here), passing through all the intermediate spots (Carro, Six Fours, Hyeres), with a slight weakening eastward from Hyeres. Unfortunately, at the moment, it seems the wind will struggle to reach the Ligurian coast (except for the Sanremo area, where, however, there are no particular rideable spots with this wind direction). Liguria will likely see mainly swell, good for surfing.
NW winds will fully affect the entire western coast of Corsica, and Sardinia, from the Strait of Bonifacio to the Alghero/Stintino area, then will shift to SW from the Sinis Peninsula down South (Chia could be spectacular on Thursday afternoon). Along the North Shore (Pischina, Marina delle Rose, a side-on direction, with gusts of up to 40 knots...), SW, i.e. onshore in the Livorno area, and SSW from Piombino to Civitavecchia (Lazio). Light westerly winds in Sicily.
On Friday, October 24, the wind will blow light west of southern France, where it should remain strong between Frejus and Cannes/Antibes, then it will cut off Liguria. West/southwesterly winds will prevail in northern Corsica, the Strait of Bonifacio, in the Livorno area, and perhaps (according to ECMWF only) also between Piombino and Civitavecchia, with an interesting NW (side-on) direction until early afternoon. Strong mistral from Latina (Lazio) to Tropea (Calabria).
Saturday the 25th, a light westerly wind from Gruissan to Frejus (France), then strong from Cannes. A strong southwesterly wind will also blow north of Corsica and around Livorno, in Tuscany (but for onshore conditions enthusiasts...).
As for the sea forecast, I'll stop here for now, because there are still too many days to trust the forecasts from Sunday onward, and we risk wasting time. I can only say that starting Sunday the 26th, a strong mistral should start again over France and Sardinia, at least.
This time, I'd like to go to Sardinia, and I'm trying to keep me free between Sunday the 26th and the beginning of next week. Even just two sessions at Funtana Meiga are worth the trip. Otherwise, I'd head to France, although the waves conditions and road traffic don't make it my first choice. I'll decide based on the updates.
Update 23/10/2025.
There are so many windy conditions that there's a risk of becoming foolish and not getting anything done...
So, in addition to what I've already written above, I'll add a few details for a few specific spots and analyze the scenario that seems to be developing starting Sunday the 26th.
Today and tomorrow, according to the latest forecasts from Arome, the Golden Beach in Imperia should be working, with very strong winds today. The problem I see is the rain and low temperatures in the Ligurian hinterland favoring a northerly wind that could keep the Libeccio away from the coast. Andora appears to be much more at risk. Imperia could work better (with more reasonable wind strength) tomorrow. Tomorrow should also see better swell.
On Saturday the 25th, there will be strong winds in Imperia and good winds from 3 PM in Andora.
I should also point out that Arome confirms the interesting side wind direction in the Gulf of Follonica tomorrow (Perelli, Quagliodromo, Carbonifera).
As for the forecast for Sunday the 26th, a strong mistral wind currently seems certain to blow in both France and Sardinia on Monday the 27th. On Sunday, the wind appears to be set to pick up in the morning, and will die down early on Tuesday morning, but with a nice slump for surfing in Sardinia. Let's see the updates.
Lakes Como and Garda
As for Lakes Como and Garda, starting tomorrow (Friday the 24th), clear skies are expected. Peler winds are predicted over Lake Garda and Tivano winds over Como tomorrow and Saturday, and perhaps on Sunday as well, although there could be some disturbance from westerly winds in the plains (south of the lakes). Foehn winds are expected over Lake Como on Monday morning.
