Weekend before Christmas still characterized by northerly winds. Here is the wind forecast to enjoy a beautiful day of windsurfing.

Forecast: sea and lakes of Como and Garda - 12/15-17/2023

Sea

The still relatively warm sea, due to the torrid last summer, is causing intense winds with every disturbance. Once the last low pressure has passed, today, Thursday 14 December, the mistral will enter the South of France, in Languedoc, in the Marseille area and over Coudouliere (where, in this period, they are riding very often). The Mistral will arrive down to Sardinia, today, and Funtana Meiga and the Sinis area will offer a beautiful day of wind and waves. Guaranteed wind, not like the Libeccio, in Liguria, which you never know if it comes in or not. Tomorrow, December 15, the wind will rotate more from the North....

2023 12 15

Tramontana in the Gruissan-Leucate area, while the rest of southern France will be cut out. Tramontana over much of Italy. First of all, on the Gulf of Genoa and the Savona area. But the best area to catch the Tramontana will be the East coast of Sardinia, with all the spots from the north (Siniscola, S'Ena and Sa Chitta, La Caletta), to those on the South coast (Costa Rei, Villasimius) which will offer good conditions, even with sun and good temperatures. And over this coast the wind will continue throughout Saturday. It would be worth of leaving tonight for Sardinia...

Grecale (NE), on Friday, in the Adriatic sea, in the area of Ancona, Termoli, Foggia, Brindisi.

Saturday, will be similar to Friday, but with a little stronger wind everywhere (except in Liguria and the Savona area). Moreover, for Saturday, there will be a nice Grecale (NE) on the North and West of Sardinia from Palau to Porto Torres; and also on West Sicily (how windy this winter, here), and on the Gulf of Taranto.

Sunday, still a little wind, from Grecale/Levante, over North and South Sardinia, still from Tramontana in the Ancona area, and above all, on Ionian Calabria, and on the Capo Passero area, in Sicily

Lakes Como and Garda (and not only...)

As regards the lakes, this afternoon the Foehn will enter Lake Como, which will continue tomorrow and until Saturday morning. The NNE orientation could make it a little unstable in the Lecco branch. Temperature increase up to 15 degrees expected. Sunday morning, thermal Tivano, on Como.

With this NNE orientation, Lake Garda should also work quite well, from today until Sunday, with sunshine and still relatively mild temperatures (the lake water is still at around 12 degrees).

Finally, for the riders from central Italy, I would like to add that Lake Bracciano will also work on Friday and Saturday, stronger on Friday.

If you ride, tell us in the forum how it went. If you have any further considerations, you can add them in the comments below.

Have a nice weekend. Fabio
