After a miserable spring, finally a day of glory! 28 Celsius degrees, and, above all, a nice north wind to enjoy! Sunday 2th june 2013, I went to Abbadia Lariana (Lake Como), after consultation with all my favorite weather sites, and especially meteoblue.ch. I have not been betrayed.

Windsurf session: Abbadia Lariana (Como Lake, Italy)

Since my arrival , at about 12 , a nice north wind is blowing, measured on the beach, at around 20 knots (average), and over 25 on the gusts.

I mount my 4.7 sail, like most of the surfers (someone dares sail from 5.2 - 5.3), and use a JP X- Cite Ride 146 (I consider myself an advanced beginner). For me, the first hour of the session is not the best, both for the wind, a little  not constant in the center of the lake, and partly because, at lunch time, I always have a lack of sugars in the blood....and need to eat something to get energy. That's why I get into water not much responsive, and not with the charged batteries as it takes on these occasions. I decide to stop for lunch and have a nice  coffee.

I return to the water around at 14.30, after shooting the photo you see above. Meanwhile , the wind has reached 25 knots (30 on gusts). Soon I understand that it will go better, and, in fact, at the first ride, I go as a missile to the opposite shore. Changing tack , and other nice planning.

With more wind is almost easier, because the plane is uninterrupted , and easier to hold. With the 146, and with a chop of 50-70 cm , is an exciting ride for me. Screams of joy in repetition. I touch speeds I have never reached before, until , at around 16, I understand that I'm beginning to be a little tired.

A chat with Guido, and mutual exchange of impressions; then , I put away my equipment, and, for 17.30 , I'm home , skipping all queues and traffic tipical on sundays (value added of the day) .

I will always remember this day , because it was the first time that I have not only survived to the strong North wind of the lake, but I really enjoyed it. And enjoying is the most important thing of windsurfing. There's time to try the tricks of those most talented windsurfers around me, present on the spot on this glorious day (watch video report)!

Have Fun, Fabio Muriano
