We are about to enter the coldest time of the year. But the passion doesn't stop. Here is the wind forecast to enjoy a beautiful day of windsurfing.

Forecast: sea and lakes of Como and Garda - 08-10/12/2023

Sea

Friday 8 December, low pressure center located to the west of Sardinia and Corsica. North wind on the Gulf of Genoa and in the Savona area, with drizzle. The wind will then tend to veer from the East towards Southern France: Arome, gives wind from ENE at Cannes, between 11.00 and 15.00, with an average of almost thirty knots, and a maximum above 35. Side on direction, which is interesting, but also rain at 4 mm/h in the central hours. I don't recommend going further west (Saint Maxime), because together with the wind, a lot of rain is expected. Wind will then return to rotate from the North, from Hyeres towards Gruissan.

Returning to Italy, SSE on the West coast of Sardinia, in the area of Alghero (Mugoni) and Stintino (Saline), and Cabras (San Giovanni and Torre Grande). Light Scirocco/Levante between Rome and Piombino.

Quieter Saturday.

Basically, on Saturday there will be a nice Levante (25-35 knots) over Sicily, in the Capo Passero area, with 16 degrees; and a bit of mistral in the Adriatic, in the area of Ancona and Termoli.

Sunday, WNW in the Strait of Bonifacio and up to Murta Maria (with sun and 17 degrees), in the south of Sardinia (Porto Pino and Villasimius). WNW which perhaps will also reach Western Sicily (Trapani, Marsala). The north wind is uncertain on Sunday in Ancona (to be checked with model updates).

Lakes Como and Garda

As for the lakes, rainy Friday on both Como and Garda. Saturday still uncertain wetaher on Como, and essentially without any wind. On Garda, however, the return of decent weather on Saturday will mean that a bit of Peler will blow again. But the best day on the lakes will certainly be Sunday. The return of good weather (= currents at altitude from the North), snow on the mountains (freezing in the valleys, during night), and the temperature of the water in the lakes (10-12 degrees), will guarantee nice thermal winds in the morning, with the Peler on Garda that could reach significant intensity. On days like this, it is useless to look at the Peler Graph, which does not consider all these factors. It will be cold on the lakes, so cover up well, but let's hope that in the Pra car park, sheltered from the wind, the sun will give us a bit of the usual warmth of that spot.
