Dervio, a well known spot on Lake Como, gave us a wonderful, almost memorable morning of windsurfing, today. Tivano, bolstered by the Foehn wind, blowing at over 20 knots, was well-spreaded and long-lasting.

Windsurfing, report: Super Dervio (lake Como): 3 august 2025

It's been a while since I've caught a good Tivano in Dervio. Usually, I stop in Valmadrera. But the forecast, as I wrote, was clear and predicted strong, brisk winds on the northern part of the lake for Sunday morning.

After a pleasant evening and a rustic dinner at the Dervio food village, accompanied by my wife and daughter, and a wonderful twilight stroll along the beach north of the town (500 meters - a spot worth exploring), I stayed on the lake to sleep in the van. Like last Sunday in Malcesine, I woke up at 5:30 and was in the water by 7:00. I had an Ezzy Wave 4.7 2025 (testing in progress), and a Tabou 3s Plus 96 set up with a MFC K-One 23 fin.

The spot gradually filled up. A few people, like me, slept on the spot. Many familiar faces. I was pleased to see Nicola and Carlo again. Alex, as always, joined me that morning.

A good group of Swiss and Germans were also present.

The wind was at the limit of 4.7 only in the first few minutes of the session, then it got increasingly stronger, and from 7:30 to just after 9, the 4.7 was perfect, and even quite full on the gusts. I had no problem sailing well upwind, well past the exit point, near the ferry stop. The NNW wind direction is perfect for Dervio (unlike the NE one). Was it Tivano? Was it Foehn? Who knows what this lake is up to... Anyway, it was probably a mix of the two.

I had a lot of fun, obviously. The beautiful sunny summer day was an added bonus. At almost 56, my head is on a lot of thoughts, and in the last few months, I've been taking stock upon my life. Starting in September, I'd like to change a few things in my life... But every now and then, taking a break and letting my mind switch off is good for me. I alternated between great maneuvers and the usual crashes. I got a close-up look at the 7:00 hydrofoil ferry (and who would have expected it at that hour?).

I rode several times with the other Galician-Portuguese guy, Sandro, who enjoyed dangerously crossing our routes at 90° on switch stance.

It was a truly beautiful morning, when the spot finally saw many windsurfers back in the water (20-30 boards in the water), and, finally, only a few wingfoilers.

Now, I'm leaving to enjoy the Irish sky for a while. And who knows, maybe I'll get a surf there too.

Happy holidays. Fabio
