Lake Garda is offering some beautiful, windy days. A bit of cool air has arrived, and snow has fallen on Mount Baldo, but it's not enough to stop our windsurfing sessions. Today, a stunning Peler wind at Pra de la Fam!
Windsurfing, report: Pra de la Fam (Garda), 27/11/2025. Don't stop me now
By now, it's clear. You don't have to check the Arome model to understand if there's going to be wind, but you have to look at the Waterwind model! As anticipated in the Waterwind forum, today was worth risking the trip and the day off. And, indeed, the Pra de la Fam gave us a good three hours of Peler for 4.2-4.7 sails, and a natural setting with wonderful colors.

At 8:00, we all started trickling into the spot. There were Matteo, Ale (Scuffia), Filippo (Coda), the tireless Simone G (still riding barefoot with insulated feet...., ha, ha...), Luca, and many other familiar faces. And at a certain point, ITA 720.... (Fabio Calò) even appeared.
As usual at this time of year, we had to wait after 9:00, for the wind, once the sun had emerged from Mount Baldo, to reach the spot and blow well over the spot. And, every time, this hour of waiting makes the most pessimistic fear the worst. And instead, thanks to the marked temperature gradient (snow on the mountains, and zero degrees in the Sarca Valley, north of the lake, while on the lake the minimum temperature was 7-8 degrees), a truly powerful and long-lasting Peler was unleashed.
We spent the wait having a pleasant chat, talking about baby bottles..., about wives who won't let you go to South Africa..., etc. But then, after 9:00, it became clear that the Pra was going to enjoy a strong Peler, and it was just a matter of choosing between a 4.2 and a 4.7. And I chose the wrong sail: the 4.7.... I should have taken into account that after 10:00 the wind would be strong, especially in the center of the lake!
Anyway, I rigged the Ezzy Wave 4.7 2025 (read test) and the Tabou 3S Plus 96, set as a thruster with the standard fins. I really liked this board setup in Cannes few weeks ago, and I wanted to try it out here on the lake too. I got in the water around 9:30.
The first half hour was wonderful. I was perfectly powered, and the water level, due to the wind still not being too strong, was very regular, with modest chop. I love riding and maneuvering with complete control. From 10:00 onwards, the lake went wild... Even though the Ezzy Wave handled the overpowering well, it became increasingly clear that I would have done better to rig the 4.2... It became increasingly difficult to enter a gybe or tack under control, and the water level became more chaotic, with a chop that wasn't too high (less than 1 meter), but very close. After about an hour in the water, I returned to beach to take some photos, also hoping the wind would calm down a bit. But, practically speaking, even though the wind began to drop slightly after 11:30, the 4.7 remained pretty full on gusts until I left the water, almost at 12:00. Or rather, the wind continued to blow strongly until almost 1.00 pm... But I got out of the water first, having used up almost all my available energy.
The final part of the session was fun again, as the sail felt a little more manageable. It was also nice when, at the end, there were only six of us in the water (me, Matteo, Scuffia, and Filippo, plus two other windsurfers and a few wingfoilers), allowing us to roam the spot as we pleased. Filippo, offshore, and especially at the start, led me to believe that Meiky Wieczorek from Malcesine was in the water, since he maneuvered very well...
At the end of the session, we enjoyed the sun and the wonderful views of Lake Garda, illuminated by the intense winter light cutting through the cool, dry air.
And after a sandwich on the beach with Scuffia in Toscolano, we happily returned home. While we wait to return to the sea, we're enjoying the lake!
Aloha. Fabio
