The Spiaggia d'Oro in Imperia is one of the most important wave spots in Northern Italy. It can give memorable days, other days good for almost everyone, and others in which you soon will be sent back to the beach (or to rocks), if you try to challenge it. It's a nice spot, but not a trivial one, as it presents some dangers, and it is therefore better to know it well, before trying it out.

 

Windsurf spot reviews: Imperia, Spiaggia d'Oro (Liguria, Italy)

The first thing that we really like about Spiaggia d'Oro is its position. The beach is located right in the heart of the Porto Maurizio village, a historic nucleus of Imperia, perched on a hill overlooking the sea, and close to the port of Imperia. This location in the town makes the spot pleasant even before and after the session, and makes the spot welcoming even for any families or girlfriends, who have the opportunity to take a walk in the village (sheltered from the wind) while you enjoy the spot in the water. 

To get to the spot (see map at the end of the article), you should exit from the motorway at Imperia Ovest, and then follow the signs to the city center. After taking the Aurelia towards the East, turn right in Via Giovanni Boine. The road goes down to the beach; here it makes a wide curve to the left, runs between the lower part of the village (which remain to the left), and the port (to the right), and finally reaches a roundabout, at which, turning left into Via Pirinoli, it is possible again drive to the Aurelia (at the traffic light at the end of Via Pirinoli, turn left if you want to have again the opportunity to return to via Boine).

There are not many parking places available at the spot (and on days when the spot is crowded, if you arrive late, you may not find even one available, unless you discharge your equipment at the spot and, then, you park far away).

The first possibility of parking is to get one of the places available on the right side of Via Boine (of course, the more comfortable are the ones closer to the beach). In the days when there are no regattas, or other events, there are some additional places available (very appreciated) at the end of Via Boine (where it makes the wide left-hand bend - see map at end of article, and where you have a sort of widening). If you pass these parking lots, without having chosen a place, you will have to redo the whole tour.
